Shiro Oni 2026
Anagama wood fired ceramic pieces and watercolour studio drawings
The residency I attended at Shiro Ono, Onishi, Japan was centered around the firing of an anagama kiln in the mountains north of Tokyo. I made a series of ceramic works that sought to express my interaction with the environment and culture of regional Japan. Supporting this ceramic work, I made a series of drawings that varied from realism to automatic. The outcomes of the six weeks residency included vibrant exchange with the eight artists I shared the residency with, gaining experience in the wood-firing process and creation of my ceramic work. An exhibition was held at the end of the residency at the Shiro Oni studio attended by local residents and artists.
