A Relationship with Nature - Black Soil 2025
Water colour & mixed media painting and stone & wood fired ceramic
A research project for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy was completed at the University of Southern Queensland in the School of Creative Arts. The research question examined was ‘how can art capture and advance human relationship with nature?’ The project included written research, interviews with practicing artists and a body of creative work primarily in ceramics utilising found materials of soils and ash. The creative work was presented during the research in an exhibition entitled Soil and Mortar, 2024, at the Warwick Art Gallery and in conjunction with Johanna Park. At completion, an exhibition Black Soil was held at the Gallery of the University of Southern Queensland. The exegesis can be read through the link in publications.
